چکیده

Abstract A time-of-flight Bragg-edge neutron transmission imaging was used to investigate the microstructure and strain distributions in a gear hardened by newly developed two-step induction-heating method: precursor (Sample 1) final product 2). The edge-position edge-broadening were determined mapped with high spatial resolution, which enabled us confirm two-dimensional of residual strain. deep layer made for Sample 1 martensite formed on entire teeth outer peripheral portion body. 2 subjected double induction-hardening, where tempered as thermal refined between fine-grained at tooth surface ferrite-pearlite core. relationship Vickers hardness described linear equation employed derive elastic map revealed that steep compressive introduced into super rapid quenching process. reversal tension speculated occur below mm from tip, almost zero core region.

Magnetic scattering in the simultaneous measurement of small-angle neutron scattering and Bragg edge transmission from steel1

Pulsed neutron sources enable the simultaneous measurement of small-angle neutron scattering (SANS) and Bragg edge transmission. This simultaneous measurement is useful for microstructural characterization in steel. Since most steels are ferromagnetic, magnetic scattering contributions should be considered in both SANS and Bragg edge transmission analyses. An expression for the magnetic scatter...

Residual Stresses in Case Hardened Materials

Fatigue behavior of case hardened parts depend to a great extent on the type of residual stresses developed in the components. Topography and metallurgical effects were the two elements which contribute much to surface integrity. Micro hardness of the gas carburized (EN 33 and EN 36) and Induction hardened (AISI 1040 and AISI 6150) specimens obtained during experiments, showed that there was gr...

Using pulsed neutron transmission for crystalline phase imaging and analysis

The total scattering cross section of polycrystalline materials in the thermal neutron region contains valuable information about the scattering processes that neutrons undergo as they pass through the sample. In particular, it displays characteristic discontinuities or Bragg edges of selected families of lattice planes. We have developed a pixelated time-of-flight transmission detector able to...
